Earth Day – the idea of Earth Day was originally born in 1969 when a US Senator named Gaylord Nelson, witnessed the effects of a massive oil spill in Santa Barbara, CA. Earth Day has been annually celebrated by billions of people around the globe over the past 50 years.

 

International Mother Earth Day - The United Nations General Assembly announced April 22 as International Mother Earth Day in 2009 through resolution A/RES/63/278. Bolivia proposed the resolution and was adopted by more than 50 member states.

 

April Showers Day – In the United Kingdom and Ireland people celebrate April Showers Day on April 22. It essentially describes the heavy and rapid showers that are typical of April weather in the northern hemisphere, particularly in the British Isles.

 

International Delfie Earth Day – The celebrity star today is “Earth”. Don’t forget to take a selfie with our star celebrity on this special day. It is a day to celebrate the launching of five earth-gazing satellites by NASA into space. NASA launched its first satellite into space in 1958 to observe space and send imagery of the Earth.

 

International Marconi Day – International Marconi Day is annually celebrated to commemorate the birth of Guglielmo Giovanni Maria Marconi, inventor of the radio. This inventor’s holiday is celebrated on Saturday closest to April 25 and this year it lies on April 22. He is credited with the invention of the wireless transmission of the radio.

 

Stephan Lawrence Day – It is to honour the teenage voice that raised against racial prejudice. Stephan Lawrence, the black teenager was slain in an attack on the same day in 1993. He was killed at 18 years, while waiting for a bus in Eltham on the evening of April 22, 1993. The Day commemorates the legacy, and the young life and inspires the marginalized youth in the UK.
