India supersedes China and becomes the most populous country

India supersedes China’s population becoming the world’s most populous country. It has 142.86 crore people, records the United Nations. China’s population dropped in the last year of starving people to death due to the former leader Mao Zedong’s disastrous agricultural policies.

 

India’s population is at 1,428.6 million or 1.4286 billion against 1.4257 billion for China, according to the United Nations Population Funds’ (UNPF) report. China is currently undergoing a decline in the birthrate and its workforce is also aging.

 

However, India has become the most populous country in the world regarding several top points;

• Nearly 1/4th of India’s population is under the age of 14.
• 68% of the population - 15 to 64 age group.
• 7% - above the age of 65.
• For nearly three decades, India’s population is expected to keep rising before it peaks at 165 crores and then would start declining.
• The new UN report also estimated that the global population would have hit 8.045 billion by mid-2023
