MP’s alleged privileges violation by EC EC SJB to boycott PSC

The main opposition party, Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), has decided not to participate in the proposed Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) established to investigate the alleged violation of Parliamentarians' privileges by the Elections Commission (EC).
The PSC was suggested after a letter signed by 14 ruling Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MPs accused the EC of certain activities, particularly its failure to inform the Parliament of matters related to the holding of Local Government (LG) elections.
The EC Chairman and former EC Chairman have expressed confusion over the allegations and see no basis for the claim that MPs' privileges were violated during the declaration of an election. The SJB MPs will only participate in the PSC if they are represented in the committee.
