Mediation Board dispute resolution 70% of disputes referred resolved

Between January and May 2023, over 70% of the nearly 100,000 disputes referred to Mediation Boards in Sri Lanka have been successfully resolved. The majority of these disputes are related to financial transactions. 

 

 

The mediation process in the country provides a voluntary and semi-formal mechanism for resolving disputes and enables speedy access to justice. Mediators help people negotiate agreements to find mutually satisfactory solutions. 

 

 

There are 329 Community Mediation Boards and 16 related to land issues, with 8,889 mediators in the country. Disputes are referred to these boards through various channels, including courts, police stations, and divisional secretariats.
