PSC on causes of the economic crisis Opposition committee is a ‘joke’

The Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) appointed to investigate the economic crisis in Sri Lanka, Sagara Kariyawasam, has dismissed the proposed shadow committee by the opposition as a 'joke.'
He argued that the opposition-appointed committee needs more power to summon officials and access relevant documents for a proper inquiry. The PSC, which has drawn criticism from opposition parties due to its composition of MPs associated with the previous government, faced resignations and boycotts from some members.
Kariyawasam stated that the opposition's committee would only yield meaningful results with the authority for a thorough investigation. The opposition's move comes amid allegations of an economic crisis arising from flawed economic policies during the tenure of former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
