Cabinet approves redrafting Anti-Terror Bill
The Cabinet of Ministers in Sri Lanka has approved the reconstitution of the proposed Anti-Terrorism Bill. The decision came after considering recommendations and suggestions from various parties, including clergy, academics, and civil society organizations.
The Minister of Justice will direct the Legal Draftsman to make necessary revisions to the draft Bill based on these inputs. The aim is to address concerns and viewpoints raised by different stakeholders.
The proposed Anti-Terrorism Bill aims to replace the current Prevention of Terrorism Act, which has faced criticism for its harsh provisions.
However, there have been concerns raised about the new Bill as well, with some claiming it might be more problematic than the existing law.
