SL moots process to seek repatriation

The Sri Lankan Government is in the early stages of devising a strategy to repatriate stolen artifacts currently held abroad by former colonial powers of Sri Lanka.

This initiative comes in response to the Netherlands' action to establish a legal agreement with Sri Lanka for the return of cultural artifacts taken by the Dutch during their colonial rule.

The government is planning how to approach the repatriation of such artifacts from various foreign countries, including the UK, which was a former colonizer of Sri Lanka.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ali Sabry, mentioned that they are evaluating the best way to handle this matter.

Additionally, an agreement is planned to be signed between the Sri Lankan and Dutch governments for the transfer of ownership of artifacts held in the Netherlands back to Sri Lanka.
