'President said cabinet approval was not necessary'

'President said cabinet approval was not necessary'

Sri Lanka's Media Minister Bandula Gunawardena informed Parliament that when a Cabinet Paper was presented to lease the airtime of Channel Eye of the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation to Lyca Group, the President indicated that cabinet approval was optional.

The Minister was responding to a question during a parliamentary session.

Anura Kumara Dissanayake, the Leader of the Jathika Jana Balavegaya, criticized the move, alleging corruption and a lack of proper process.

However, Minister Bandula Guwardena stated that the President and Cabinet advised him to withdraw the cabinet paper, indicating it was unnecessary for approval.
