GMOA urges Health Min. explanation post-probe

GMOA urges Health Min. explanation post-probe

The Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA) is demanding clarity from the Ministry of Health regarding the suspension of Judicial Medical Officer (JMO) Dr Ruhul Haq by the Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC).

Despite being suspended until August 20, 2023, Haq was found to have practiced as a JMO, raising concerns about the loss of public trust in forensic medicine and its impact on the legal system.

The GMOA calls for a prompt investigation into the matter, including why the suspension wasn't enforced and who authorized his continued practice. The GMOA emphasizes that forensic medicine is crucial to various sectors, including the Judiciary, Police, and civil society.

The Ministry of Health has stated that it is awaiting a response from the Public Service Commission (PSC) to decide on disciplinary actions against Haq.

Allegations of contradictory postmortem reports prepared by Haq in the cases of Dinesh Schaffter and Hamdi Faslin have raised concerns about the accuracy and credibility of his work.
