Abduction of mother & children foiled by attentive police sergeant

Abduction of mother & children foiled by attentive police sergeant

A potential abduction of a mother and her two children was thwarted by an observant police sergeant who noticed the distressed expression on the mother's face and her plea for help.

The incident occurred at the Gelanigama Interchange of the Southern Expressway. The woman, aged 37, and her children, aged 15 and 7, were abducted from their Bandaragama home.

While trying to exit the expressway, the mother managed to signal for assistance to the police sergeant at the exit, who promptly intervened. The police sergeant's quick response led to the rescue of the abductees.

Two suspects have been apprehended, with one being identified as the woman's second husband. The abduction stemmed from an argument between the couple, resulting in the woman leaving with her children.

The husband forcibly took them from their refuge in Bandaragama, heading towards Talpe. The suspects are currently under police custody and are scheduled to appear in court today.
