A fishing trawler is seized with 179 kilos of heroin

A fishing trawler carrying over 179 kilos of heroin was intercepted by the Sri Lanka Navy. The heroin stock had a street value of over Rs. 3593 million.
Based on the information from the State Intelligence Service, the operation was conducted as a coordinated one, stated the Sri Lanka Navy. They have pursued the mission with the Sri Lanka Coast Guard.
The operation, carried out by the Sri Lanka Coast Guard Ship ‘Samudraraksha’, also ended in the apprehension of six (06) suspects. The shipment of narcotic drugs and the suspects were brought to Galle harbour today. The Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera was expected there to inspect the suspects and the consignment.
The apprehended were identified as residents of Nakulugamuwa, Kudawella, Netolpitiya, and Trincomalee, who are from 25 to 32 years of age. The suspects will be handed over to the Police Narcotic Bureau for onward legal action.
In 2023, drugs with a gross street value of over Rs. 4908 million have been intercepted by the Navy thus far.
