Probe urged into payments to Ace Power Plant Embilipitiya
The Electricity Consumers Association (ECA) is raising concerns about the alleged misuse of over Rs. 12 billion in capacity charges paid to the ACE Power Plant in Embilipitiya over 15 years.
The ECA has urged the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) and the Auditor General's Department to investigate. They claim the payments are significantly higher than the power plant's value.
ECA's Chairman criticized the authorities for not addressing these alleged irregularities. The ECA also reported non-implementation of a Cabinet decision to take over the power plant under the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB).
Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera defended private power plant purchases due to drought, emphasizing transparency.
The ECA also noted possible irregularities in the proposed emergency power purchase process and vowed to inform relevant parties.
