Special investigation unit appointed to implement action against sports-related offences

A particular investigation unit has been established under the Sports Act to address sports-related offences. This unit, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police W.A. Jayanath Jayasinghe, has been appointed by Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe. 

 

 

The unit's mandate is to enforce the legal provisions of the Prevention of Offences relating to the Sports Act, No. 24 of 2019. 

 

 

It will be operational for three years starting from February 15, 2023, by Section 21 of the Act.
