Security at BIA departure relaxed

Security procedures at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake, Sri Lanka, have been relaxed, according to the Airport and Aviation Services Sri Lanka (AASL).

Passengers will no longer need to scan their luggage at the airport entrance, a measure initially introduced due to security concerns. However, travellers will still undergo two remaining security checks before boarding.

The AASL also mentioned the presence of plainclothes security personnel and military staff at the terminals and the use of 446 closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras for continuous monitoring.
