Over 1.2 Mn appeals, 124,000 objections to be reviewed by Aug.

According to the Ministry of Finance, Economic Stabilization, and National Policies, the authorities are reviewing over 1.2 million appeals and 124,000 objections related to the Aswesuma social welfare program by the end of this month.
State Minister of Finance, Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, reported in Parliament that the Welfare Benefits Board (WBB) has received 1,024,059 appeals and 124,495 objections related to the program, which aims to benefit 2 million families.
Around 84,374 families selected to receive benefits under the program have appealed to be placed under a higher benefit category. Siyambalapitiya mentioned that information related to 1.3 million bank accounts for the program had been entered into the system, and the aim is to finalize the review of appeals and objections by the end of the month.
The Aswesuma program provides different monthly allowances based on various need categories, and payments began on July 1.
