BMICH Director/CEO quits over ‘corruption’ controversy

The Director and C.E.O. of the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (B.M.I.C.H.), South Asia's largest multi-purpose conference centre, has resigned amid allegations of corruption and malpractices.
The B.M.I.C.H.'s Board of Directors will appoint a special committee to investigate the allegations related to corruption and malpractices in the Reservation Department.
The Chairperson of B.M.I.C.H., former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, has requested a detailed report and internal audit in addition to the committee's investigation.
The former Director and C.E.O., along with the Head of Reservation, are alleged to have violated standard operating procedures and failed to renew them annually.
The resignation is also linked to allegations of abuse of power and welfare-related issues. The B.M.I.C.H. oversees its Director, appointed by the S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike National Memorial Foundation's Board of Management.
The Foundation Act of 1975 established this entity. Investigations will also examine potential fraud and malpractices in the Finance and Human Resource Departments.
