Raids on illegal polythene factories

The Central Environmental Authority (CEA) is conducting raids to find illegal polythene factories.

According to a gazette notification issued on January 21 this year, sachet packets with a net volume of 20 ml or a net weight of 20 g or less will be banned from March 31.

Despite the ban, the Central Environmental Authority (CEA) raided a factory in the Jamburaliya area in Kesbewa and found more than 3,000 banned sachets.

Director General of the Central Environmental Authority P.B. Hemantha Jayasinghe said that the factory was strongly advised to remove all sachet packets from the market as soon as possible.
