No shopping untill Monday

All shops should be closed from 11 p.m tonight till 4 a.m Monday, Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said. He said only essential services would be allowed when the island-wide travel restriction was in force. The Spokesman said that online delivery service for medicine will be allowed to operate. He said last digit ID system introduced for non-essential movements will be implemented from Monday.

 

Discrimination

 

The decision to impose strict travel restrictions for three whole days shows the government’s discrimination towards a section of the minority, an Opposition Muslim MP said today.n SJB Colombo District MP Mujibur Rahaman told a press conference that the travel restrictions were not imposed as per health experts' advice, but were a result of the government's racial-based attitude.

 

Special Trains

 

The Railways Department has taken steps to operate several long-distance trains from today to facilitate the state and private sector employees who travel to and from their workplaces, Deputy General Manager of Railways A.D.G Senavirathne said.

 

The train services will be as follows;

 

Office train will operate from Kandy to Colombo (leaves at 5.00 a.m), from Maho to Fort (leaves at 4.45 a.m), from Chillaw to Fort (leaves at 5.50 a.m), and a special train between Bolawatta and Puttalam (leaves at 7.00 a.m) and an office train from Beliatta to Maradana leaves at (4.30 am) every day.
