In its Trafficking in Persons Report, the US maintains Sri Lanka on its Tier 2 Watch List

In the Trafficking in Persons Report, the United States has kept Sri Lanka on the Tier 2 Watch List.
According to the report, the Sri Lankan government does not fully achieve the minimum standards for the elimination of human trafficking, although it is working hard to do so.
In addition, the government continues to collaborate with international groups on anti-trafficking training and education.
Sri Lanka was granted a waiver from an otherwise compulsory downgrade to Tier 3 under the Trafficking Victims Protection Act because the government had committed sufficient resources to a written plan that, if followed, would constitute significant efforts to achieve the minimum standards.
As a result, Sri Lanka has been placed on the Tier 2 Watch List for the third year in a row.
