Basil will have a brand new ministry, while Mahinda will keep the Finance Ministry

While Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa will retain his position as Finance Minister, Basil Rajapaksa will be nominated to a new Cabinet ministerial position established by the merger of many institutions under the Finance Ministry.

Despite rumors that Basil Rajapaksa may be appointed as Finance Minister, sources within the Ministry believe that Mahinda Rajapaksa will not leave.

“There may be some adjustments, but most likely, Mahinda Rajapaksa would continue to serve as Finance Minister, and a separate ministry, such as the Ministry of Economic Revival, will be established and handed over to Basil Rajapaksa,” the sources said.

According to cited sources, the Finance Ministry's majority of responsibility will be moved to the new Ministry.
