Facebook love affair ends in tragedy in Negombo

A Facebook love affair has ended in tragedy with a young girl committing suicide and a married mane being placed under arrested after being found responsible for the death, according to police reports from the Negombo area.

The affair blossomed between the 25 year old unmarried girl and the 52 year old businessman – father of two children started off after casually chatting on the FB.

After months of casual messages the man had insisted that they meet as they had turned out to be friends and besides claimed that his marriage was running into trouble.

According to police reports eventually the girl had agreed to meet briefly in Negombo, but eventually he drove the girl to Colombo claiming he wanted to buy her clothes as  a gift.

In Colombo, he had accompanied her into  leading shopping complex and told her to purchase clothes. He had insisted that she has a fit of the clothes and taken her to a hotel where she had been abused.

Thereafter the man had met with her regularly and their relationship had continued.

However, when the girl wanted to end the relationship the man had threatened  her that he would expose her pictures in the internet taken during their intimate relationship.

Eventually, the girl had taken her life after writing a detailed account of their meetings and blaming the man for her death. The man has been placed under arrest.

Police has been continuously warning the youth not to fall prey into such relationships and also to complain to the cyber crimes unit if persons threaten to blackmail persons.
