80% compulsory A/L school attendance reduced to 40%

Education Minister, attorney Dr Susil Premajayantha, has announced a reduction in compulsory school attendance for students applying to sit for the 2023 General Certificate of Education Advanced Level (GCE A/L).

The requirement has been lowered to 40% from the previous 80% due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and civil unrest in the country in the last few years.

The decision was made to accommodate students who could not attend school regularly during these challenging times.
