Private tuition ban for State teachers Change the over-competitiveness of exams

Private tuition ban for State teachers Change the over-competitiveness of exams

The Ceylon Teachers' Union (CTU) has urged the government to end the extreme competitiveness in the education system. This request follows a ban imposed by the Education Ministry of the Central Province on government teachers giving tuition to students of the schools they teach.

The CTU welcomes such decisions by the provincial educational authorities but also emphasizes the need to address the underlying systemic issues that have contributed to the current education climate.

The CTU President, Joseph Stalin, highlights the exam-oriented competitive nature of the education system, which compels many students to attend tuition classes. He calls for a reform of the entire education system to address this issue.

Additionally, he notes that some teachers make attending their tuition classes mandatory for students, which he considers a tragedy. He suggests that by improving the education system, the need for excessive tuition classes can be reduced, and teachers' financial struggles can be alleviated.
