May 29 is a Day to Celebrate!

Annually, Mount Everest Day is celebrated on May 29. The day is dedicated to honor the mountain climbers Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa who climbed the mountain on that day in 1953. In many people’s dream package, climbing Mount Everest is at the top but only a few achieve it. This life-threatening risk requires very good physical fitness, energy plus unending courage. The climbers who make it usually have trained for many years before attempting the tallest mountain. In general, it can take a good climber about two months to reach the peak.

Every year, The International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers falls on May 29. It is a day to appreciate the invaluable contribution of professional and civilian personnel to the organization. Since its establishment in 1948, over 4000 peacekeepers have lost their lives on service under the U.N. flag. The day was officially established when the first U.N. peacekeeping mission was named the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (U.N.T.S.O.) in 1948.
