The cause of the Odisha rail disaster has been identified as likely to be a signal fault with a “change in electronic interlocking”, according to India's railway minister, BBC reports.

Even though the cause and people responsible for the mortal three-train crash in eastern India had been identified, they have not been elaborated according to Ashwini Vaishnaw.

“Some kind of signaling interference” has been the cause rather than failure according to India’s Railway Board.

A report into India’s worst rail accident this century is due later. The increased death toll has been revised down to 275 to 275 after some bodies were counted twice, officials said.
