Sri Lankan PM rejects West smearing of China’s BRI as “debt trap”

Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena has praised China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), stating that China focuses on its development while assisting other countries in creating their success stories. 

 

 

He emphasized that China has demonstrated its ability to overcome developmental challenges and significantly contribute to global economic growth. Gunawardena rejected accusations by Western countries that China uses debt to gain influence, highlighting China's economic power and significant investments worldwide. 

 

 

He also commended China's efforts in poverty alleviation, noting that millions have been lifted out of poverty in recent years. Gunawardena expressed that China has been helping countries across continents and successfully working with critical Western nations. Despite ongoing debates, China continues to progress and support the development of other countries through investment. 

 

 

The Prime Minister emphasized that China's Belt and Road Initiative has provided a strong foundation for the well-being of billions of people globally.
