Wimal appears in Court

Opposition Parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa attended the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court on June 21st. This followed the issuance of an arrest warrant for him two days prior due to his failure to appear in court.
On Monday, June 19th, the Colombo Chief Magistrate, Prasanna de Alwis, issued the arrest warrant against Weerawansa for his non-appearance in a case filed against him for a protest he conducted in front of the United Nations (UN) office in Colombo in 2016.
The charges against Weerawansa stem from allegations of causing public inconvenience by blocking roads near the UN Office in Thummulla, Colombo, during the former UN Human Rights High Commissioner, Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussain, visit to Sri Lanka in 2016.
