Political parties object to National Delimitation Committee's interim report

The State Ministry of Provincial Councils and Local Government has announced that all political parties have raised concerns about the interim report of the National Delimitation Committee.

State Minister Janaka Wakkambura emphasized that these objections were primarily centred around the potential unfair treatment of certain groups due to the proposed consolidation of multiple divisions into one.

Furthermore, most political parties have preferred conducting the local government election under the previous system rather than the proposed plan, as State Minister Janaka Wakkambura stated.

Additionally, the State Minister mentioned that parliamentary approval is expected for a proposal that reserves 25 per cent of the candidate list for youth representatives in the upcoming local government elections.
