Wrong medical prescription caused a child's death

Wrong medical prescription caused a child's death

The wrong prescription had caused a child to die in the Gampola area. This 7-year-old child’s death was reported from Kurunduwatta Divisional Hospital.

According to reports, the female child had become sick after taking the medicines prescribed on printed paper. The medicines had been issued by Kurunduwatta Divisional Hospital.

After taking the medicines the child had become sick with diarrhea. Gampaha Base Hospital finally found that the prescribed dose is for adults. It had been an already printed prescription for an adult and wrongfully given later to the child.

However, the child who was made unconscious and admitted to the ICU of the Gampola Base Hospital is reported to have passed away while receiving treatment. It was also reported that a lack of paper in the Kurunduwatta Divisional Hospital had been the initial reason for the issuing of this printed medicine which finally resulted in a death.
