Navy seized over 836kg Kendu leaves around Kalpitiya

During separate operations, the Sri Lanka Navy seized over 836kg of smuggled Kendu leaves. The incident took place off Paramunai and Kudawa beach areas in Kalpitiya. The search operations have found and apprehended 01 dinghy and 02 persons in connection to the acts of smuggling.

 

The Navy has recovered 17 sacks of Kendu leaves weighing about 550kg and 750g. from the Kudawa beach also another stock of Kendu leaves has been discovered. According to reports about 286kg and 200g of smuggled Kendu leaves, in 09 sacks have been recovered from there.

 

The suspects are the residents of Anawasala in Kalpitiya, aged 18 and 23. Legal actions will be taken regarding the act by the Customs Preventive Office in Katunayake.
