Drug addicts among Homagama Hospital minor employees

Residents of the area expressed concern about the drug addicts among minor employees of Homagama Base Hospital, which affected the efficiency of the services, creating hardship for the patients.
They said several minor employees have been selling illegal drugs, including Methamphetamine (ICE), to their fellow employees and the in-house patients as well.
Residents of the area pointed out that theft of property belonging to the in-house patients has been going on unchecked. They said minor employees are not available to assist patients admitted to the hospital wards at night.
However, Medical Superintendent Dr. Eranga Rajapakse said several drug addicts in the minor staff had been reported and that two of them taken into custody recently by Homagama Police. She said a separate departmental inquiry against them would be conducted, and steps would be taken to prevent the activities of drug addicts causing annoyance to the patients and fellow employees.
