Dayasiri proposes Opposition parties to form non-party councils

SJB MP Dayasiri Jayasekara said that all Opposition parties and independent groups must unite to form councils in local bodies where the Opposition commands a majority as non-party councils.

 

He told the media that all Opposition parties and independent groups must unite against the National People's Power (NPP) without thinking of chairmanships or vice chairmanships in the councils.

 

He said the Panduwasnuwara Pradeshiya Sabha will set an example to the country by forming the council as a non-party council. 

 

"The NPP has secured only 17 seats while the Opposition has secured 21 seats altogether in Panduwasnuwara Pradeshiya Sabha. We can form this council with all Opposition parties and independent groups," he said.

 

He said all council chairmen and members must give a pledge not to engage in any fraud and corruption during their tenure.
