Police probe foiled abduction near girls’ school in Colombo

The Cinnamon Gardens Police have launched an investigation into an attempted abduction near a leading girls’ school in Colombo, police said.
According to police, a woman lodged a complaint on May 2, claiming the incident occurred when she arrived in her vehicle to pick her daughter up from school.
She stated that an unidentified man entered her car and attempted to force her to drive off while her 8-year-old daughter was seated in the back seat.
The suspect reportedly got into the backseat, causing the child to recoil into a corner, and demanded the woman drive the vehicle forward.
According to the complaint, the mother refused to drive the car and quickly pulled her daughter away from the suspect and shouted for help.
The suspect then fled the scene.
Police said CCTV footage from the area shows the same man loitering near the school on April 29 and 30.
They said investigations are continuing with the assistance of surveillance footage. Police urge anyone with information to contact the Cinnamon Gardens Police on 011-2695411.
