Indo-Lanka energy connectivity

Indo-Lanka energy connectivity

The proposed bi-directional petroleum pipeline between India and Sri Lanka can be built within two to three years once the necessary approvals are received.

The project's preliminary desktop study has been completed, and a detailed feasibility report is now required for approval. The pipeline is expected to run from Nagapattinam to Sri Lanka, supplying petrol, diesel, and kerosene from an Indian Oil Corporation-owned refinery in Cauvery Basin.

Sri Lanka's current refinery at Sapugaskanda can only meet a fraction of the national petroleum demand, leading the country to explore options to improve energy security and reduce the costly monthly fuel imports.

The pipeline is essential in enhancing connectivity and bilateral economic partnerships between the two countries.
