The price of local school bags and shoes is to be slashed

During a discussion held with the State Minister of Finance Ranjith Siyambalapitiya in the Finance Ministry, the manufacturers of school bags and school shoes have expressed their agreement to reduce the prices of locally manufactured products.

 

The commodity prices that increased relative to the depreciation of the Sri Lankan Rupee were not reduced back when the Rupee appreciated according to the State Minister; Siyambalapitiya.

 

He stated this at the meeting held yesterday, April 25. He further mentioned that if the manufacturers turn a deaf ear to this request the government would have to go for alternative options since the parents have faced a lot of hardships in view of the current situation.

 

He requested the manufacturers to reduce the product price to the possible lowest and release them to the market.

 

In accordance, the manufacturers have given their consent to slash the prices of local school bags and shoes. Thereby, they will officially notify the percentage of the relevant products on May 23.
