Schools reopen amidst dengue prevention measures

Today marks the beginning of the third phase of the first school term for all government and government-approved schools in Sri Lanka. This follows a vacation period granted on May 26th due to the G.C.E. O/L Examination.

The Sri Lanka Transport Board has announced that school students will be provided with tickets until June 14th, while the Railways Department will offer train tickets until June 16th.

Dr. Asela Gunawardena, the Director General of Health Services, has informed educational authorities about the necessary precautions to be taken at schools reopening regarding dengue prevention.

The National Dengue Control Unit has urged parents to apply mosquito repellents on their children's exposed skin before sending them to school.

This year, there have been 42,961 reported dengue cases, with 25 reported deaths during the same period. These statistics highlight the importance of taking preventive measures and raising awareness to combat the dengue threat in Sri Lanka.
