An investigation was initiated by Minister into 73 police officers who neglected their responsibilities

Public Security Minister Tiran Alles informed Parliament that an investigation will be conducted on 73 police officers who neglected their duties during a conflict situation in the country on May 9 of the previous year.
The investigation will cover 62 Chief Police Inspectors, one female Chief Police Inspector, six Police Inspectors, one Deputy Inspector General, one Police Sergeant, and two Police Constables.
The Special Investigation Unit of the Sri Lanka Police is currently conducting a preliminary investigation, and 38 officers have been transferred to ensure they do not hinder the ongoing investigation.
Minister Tiran Alles provided this response to a question raised by MP Jagath Kumara Sumithraarachchi, adding that cases related to the obstruction of police officers' duties are being heard in court.
The Minister also clarified that only 4,500 police personnel, excluding MPs and Ministers, have been assigned for the security of other individuals and dismissed recent media reports on this matter as false.
