Kalubowila hospital denies accepting new dead bodies

Kalubowila hospital denies accepting new dead bodies

"The dead bodies that are unidentified and with no owners are not accepted by the hospital anymore," the hospital administration at the Kalubowila (Colombo South) Teaching Hospital has made an announcement.

Hospital Director Dr. Sagari Kiriwandeniya had notified the relevant police stations to remove the bodies from the hospital morgue for several reasons because the mortuary is exceeding its capacity which is 36.

Several reasons have caused the situation serious and worse. For example, “The storing of 28 unidentified corpses on which post-mortems have not been done for a year and also follow-up actions on bodies are not conducted either."

Further, she stated that the post-mortems on bodies which are still in the hospital are not conducted by the relevant police stations including Piliyandala, Mirihana, Dehiwala and Mt. Lavinia.

"Until the existing bodies are removed, the bodies brought to the hospital have to be kept on the hospital beds,” Another official further stated about the prevalent situation.
