Amarasiri Kalansuriya bids farewell to his acting career

The renowned actor Amarasiri Kalansuriya has passed away at the age of 82, family sources
report.

 

Kalansuriya, also known as ‘Kalan’, who was born on 20 th September 1940 was a multi-faceted
actor in Sri Lankan cinema, theatre and television. He started his film career from ‘Hanthane
Kathawa’ in 1969, alongside the late actor Vijaya Kumaratunga.

 

He contributed by acting in a numerous popular movies such as Akkara Paha, Ahas Gauwa, Puja, Bambaru Awith, Yasa Isuru, Dolosmahe Pahana, Ahas Maliga and Diya Yata Gindara expanding his career over 50 years.

 

During his acting career he has won the Critics’ Award, the Presidential Award and Sarasaviya
Award for his excellent performance.

 

Kalansuriya was Ajantha Ekanayake’s husband and he was a beloved father of a son and two
daughters.
