Sri Lanka to lose USD 6.4 billion in compensation of maritime disaster

The Centre for Environmental Justice declared a risk of losing the opportunity to claim nearly USD 6.4 billion in compensation for the environmental damage caused by the X-Press Pearl ship fire.
They assert that the situation should be a result of the irresponsibility of the relevant authorities.
The X-press Pearl was wrecked and destroyed in the shallow sea near Negombo in May 2021.
The explosion caused critical damage to the environment including the coastline and ecosystem.
The Centre for Environmental Justice alleges that the relevant authorities' actions are not satisfactory to claim the relevant compensation for the environmental damage.
