Weather Alert - Public to be vigilant to minimize damages due to strong winds and lightning during thundershowers

Showery conditions are expected to worsen across the island's south-western region (Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, and Southern provinces), as well as the windy conditions over the island and neighboring sea areas, over the following few days (particularly on 09th and 10th).

Showers or thundershowers are expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, North-Western, Southern, and Central provinces at various times. Heavy rains of more than 100 mm are forecast in parts of the Central, Sabaragamuwa, and Western provinces, as well as the Galle and Matara districts.

Strong gusty winds of up to 60 kmph are expected over the western slopes of the Central hills at times, and gusty winds of up to 50 kmph are expected in the Northern, North-Central, and North-Western provinces, as well as the Hambantota and Trincomalee districts.
