Weather Alert - Public to be vigilant to minimize damages due to strong winds and lightning during thundershowers

Showers or thundershowers are expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, North-Western, and Southern provinces, as well as the Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts, at times. Showers with a rainfall total of more than 50 mm are expected in some areas of Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as Galle and Matara districts.

Showers or thundershowers could occur in the evening or night in a few locations in the Uva and Eastern provinces, as well as the Mullaithivu and Vavuniya districts.

Wind speeds can reach 30-40 km/h on the western slopes of the Central hills in North-Western province, as well as in Hambantota and Trincomalee districts.
