Weather Alert - Public to be vigilant to minimize damages due to strong winds and lightning during thundershowers

Showers are likely to intensify throughout the island's south-western and western regions over the following few days.

Showers or thundershowers are expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, North-Western, and Southern provinces, as well as the Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts, at times. Heavy showers of up to 100 mm are possible in certain areas.

In the sea areas around the island, winds will be westerly or south-westerly. The wind will be blowing around 30-40 km/h. In the sea territory spanning from Kankasanturai to Puttalam via Mannar and in the sea area extending from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota, wind speeds can reach 60 kmph.
