Two arrested for smuggling dry turmeric

Security forces arrested the driver of a lorry carrying 1157 kilograms of dried turmeric illegally in a Pooneryn area on a tip-off received by the Pooneryn Police.

 

Another 1000 kilograms of dry turmeric was found during a search of a suspicious lorry at the Mannar Army roadblock and a person was arrested along with it.

 

The arrest was made while a consignment of dry turmeric was being smuggled from India to Sri Lanka and transported to various parts of the country. The two arrested persons are to be produced before the Mannar Magistrate's Court.
