Foreign divorce approved in Sri Lanka

Approval has been granted to make provisions for the acceptance of divorce decisions in Sri Lanka by Sri Lankans residing abroad.

Previously, those decisions were not accepted in Sri Lanka and in such a case they have to file for divorce again in this country.

Therefore, the Minister of Justice and the Family Legal Advisory Committee recommended that laws be enacted to allow the annulment of marriages, judicial separations and divorces obtained in other countries.
