Request to the President to protect the Buddhist heritage in Afghanistan

Addressing the UN General Assembly, President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa said that the United Nations and the international community should intervene to protect the Buddhist heritage in Afghanistan.


Afghanistan, which has a large Buddhist heritage, is currently controlled by the Taliban, which has previously worked to destroy the Bamiyan Buddha statue.


The President called on the United Nations and the international community to encourage the protection of Buddhist heritage in Afghanistan.
