Puppy arrested for drug trafficking

A 36 year-old man known as 'Puppy', a prime suspect in drug trafficking, was arrested by the Police Narcotics Bureau in Tangalle yesterday, police spokesman Senior DIG Ajith Rohana said.

According to the DIG, he had used his boat to transport a stockpile of narcotics and several firearms in February and had fled before being arrested during a covert operation.

The Police Media Spokesman said that although areas such as Weligama, Gandara and Tangalle are becoming drug distribution centers, it is now possible to control the situation.
