Power cuts in several areas due to heavy rains - Ministry of Power and Energy

Power supply to several districts in Sri  Lanka was disrupted owing to bad weather conditions, stated Sulakshana Jayawardena , Media Spokesperson at the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy .

 

Accordingly, the power supply to  areas of Kalutara, Pannipitiya, Homagama, Mathugama, Awissawella, Padukka, Kiriella, Nuwaraeliya and  Rathnapura was interrupted due to the adverse weather conditions. 

 

Furthermore, train services that operate on the Kelani Valley Railway Line have also been disrupted owing to the fallen trees.

 

However, the ministry highlighted that the above posed no impact on the process of counting ballots, which commenced at 7.00 a.m., today (August 6).

 

The Ministry also added that the necessary measures are underway to restore power supply to the said areas.
