General Election 2020 : Election Campaign costs Rs 1597 million so far

The Centre for Monitoring Election Violence (CMEV) stated that the political parties and the candidates contesting the 2020 General Election have so far spent R. 1597 million for official campaigning.
Accordingly, a candidate from the Badulla district have distributed Rs. 5000 notes tallying up to Rs. 20 million as part of his official campaign.
Another candidate had spent Rs. 46.8 million within a period of 10 days, where Rs.2.7 million had been spent to provide transportation to the supporters who participated in a rally, which was also attended by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, in Matara.
Furthermore, they have presented the relevant figures that were identified officially, in relation to the total spending of the political parties.

- UNP – Rs 219 million
