New Zealand's all-rounder Chris Cairns is being treated in the intensive care unit of a Sydney hospital in Australia for a sudden heart attack.

The 51 - year - old athlete, who recently underwent heart surgery at a Canberra hospital, has been taken to a Sydney hospital.

He underwent another operation at that time and has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital.
